My beloved Father, shown here w/my son Shayn a very long time ago!
He and Mother had us five children, three sons and two daughters, dog and cat, and one Grandson.
He was a hard worker, affording us every summer of our life on Nantucket Island.
We all miss him and I was so close to him, the first born.
It's so important for daughter's to have great relationships with their dad, I did.
Happy Fathers Day!

The title maybe should have been "OR THE LACK OF"
MY CELL PHONE.
Well my cell phone died, simply one day it stoped working.
I thought of not using mine for some time just to see if I could manage.
Now, I do not use mine like most, constantly, daily, for me it's for emergencies,
as I still like having a land phone for regular chat.
So, anyway going on week seven I decided to get a new phone, new number
and a new color.
I see people walking and driving on their cell phones and a few times
people on the phone with another ringing in their pocket and or handbag!
To each his own.
It is more a safety buffer for me, if something happens on the road or off Island
I need to let the Dr. office I may be running late, or call a taxi.
They have a lot of advantages, but for me all those weeks really did not affect me.
Trying to live a more Hygee life, but I will admit, I did miss my cell phone
and now have a new one.

In my youth I had no desire to learn to sew, none!
Then there was a time when I sewed by hand and made lovely quilts.
Of late, a couple of years now a strong
urge caused me to purchase her.
One, to get back quilting and taking clothes in. I figured just basics
Along with a basic sewing class and I'm on my way.

Spring has sprung? Not quite yet, around these parts.
But, I had to start clearing through my clothes to organize my
I adore lace, ruffles, linen and cottons for the warmer Season.
Here's a small collection of the edges of my skirts, tops and dresses!
Lovely also is the wearing of footless tights, which hit the ankle area or cover the knee.
They also help when I'm riding my bike, with a dress or skirt on, my usual attire!
If only the days would open up to more sunshine and less rain, OH SPRING!

Here we are into the last day of March!
My thoughts are on recipes and a new website and soup
and root veggies roasted!
When I roast a chicken, it serves many purposes.
Dinner when complete, sandwiches or chicken burritos and soup.
Veggies oh yes, so looking forward to the CSA weekly
baskets, fresh eggs included!
Roasting veggies I just toss all in olive oil, and sprinkle
Champagne Vinegar on top into a 360 oven temp,
check veg for tenderness-done in approx. 1 1/2 hr.
Chicken soup I cut up chicken- say 2-3 cups, chop 3 stalks of celery, egg noodles,
and 5 carrots, place all in your soup pot and cover with chicken stalk.
Bring to boil and lower heat to med low till carrots are cooked-done.
I serve with garlic & butter bisquits.
Enjoy your time making and your Friday, as we await snow!

As young children we learn to write.
Print or cursive I recall. Proper penmanship was imperative
I loved sending out handwritten Thank You note cards,
after Birthday & Christmas! It was tradition.
My only child, a son could write & draw quite early in his life.
I was a Town News Columnist, long ago in my other life, living on another Island. I so loved that job. Part-time as I wanted to fill all my time up
as my son was about to leave for college. So I worked full-time, and wrote PT,
and baked and sold bread and was so involved in his world.
Then I started writing stories and dad & I were going to work on a book project
about the time he was diagnosed with cancer. He the illustrator and I the writer. NOT!
So, life continues and I cherish my writing time.
Currently two book projects.
These days I type on my typewriter, type on my computer,
and write long hand with Quill and with my favorite pen, in journal and paper.
We must not give up writing long hand, so teach your children to send off hand written
cards and or notes snail mail, keep up tradition.

The mail brought me Spring tops and a maxi skirt!
Hi/Low ruffles and lace,YES!
Greens are purportedly 2017 Pantone color.
So a few greens won't hurt, though I only care for moss green.
It's all good.
I'm not one to get pulled into On-Trend items,But I like to be
Color block & hi/low seem to be it.
I like Mint, Navy, Blush, and always Black for Spring.
Liking the styles seemingly fitting for all ages, important for us over age 30!
Well as I purge and replace, Spring just around the corner!
(I am seeing Crocus & Daffodil heads trying to pop open)!

I looked at my Spring wardrobe and the footwear dept. looking a bit bleak!
Time to update, purge and comfort at the top of my list.
I love the colors. Taupe and blush so far!
I will need white leather sneakers also.
Ladies, take a look at "Earth" footwear, you'll be amazed.
Remember the Swedish Yoga gal who started this footwear Co. thirty-plus years ago?
Well my Booties above are Earth! Comfort and on trend!
I like no more than a 2" heel these days, as I stand at 5'6 &1/2".
Steve Madden & Ryka & Birkies and Vionic are all amazing!
View the Evolution Of Shoes from 8000BC thru 1970.
We are on our feet constantly, take good care to make sure they
have comfort and treat yourself to a pedicure.
One last mention, get a shoe rack or keep them in their original boxes.

Colors of light skin tones appeal to me!
I've been drawn to tones of taupe and blush of late.
Decor as well as on trend wearables, it's all working.
I feel even calmer wearing or having these shades around me.
Though, 2017 Pantone is the word, and they say Greens, i'm noticing a lot
of the same blush and taupes returning.
They look fresh and clean on every skin tone, not abrasive.
I so needed a cross-body bag, never thinking i'd find one in blush
The taupe perforated booties, such a find and can't wait to wear them for Spring.
Accessories here and there have shown up in my path, so I grabbed them,
again in blush.
In fashion trends I say pick the styles and colors that work for you, always.
(I have managed to find a few lovely Green Pantone color tops, w/my theme of lace

The book arrived after the holidays.
The little book of Hygee. Pronounced HOO-GA.
Danish Secrets To Happy Living.
by Meik Wiking-the CEO of Happiness Research Institute.
Yes-two hundred & twenty one pages of info.
Well come to find out I've been living the Hygee way!
Games, TV night, sledding, play, relax, picnic, watch the sky.
We all need a notebook and fav pen, fav blanket and socks,
tea, music, a warm sweater, and a comfortable chair.
Find time for walks, and foraging, and knit and always be comfortable.
Hygee is my world!
A great read, I'll pass mine on to a friend off island and she to another.

We all have our own reasons for meditating.
Enlightenment, mindfulness, center ones self,
it's all good, it's so healthy to do.
I practice daily, on my bedroom floor near a window.
I wanted a pretty comfy pillow and found one.
A pink & white faux fur Isaac Mizrahi oversized euro.
Simply adore it and it so adds to my practice, and always with flowers around me.
Happy Valentine Day!
Not a day I particularly care for, but
many do. Look around at your local retail stores, amazing.
So much out there to purchase for this day!
Here's my contribution to all my readers & followers.
Make your day special in every way, today and really every day!

Well I'm counting, I need Spring fast!
Brother James took this shot visiting from Fla.
I feel I look so pale!
Still working on my 90 Days of Purging,
have you read about this?
Haven't worn it, read it, used it, listened to it-it goes.
Off to the "Take It or Leave It" at our dump!
As Spring comes I'd like it to be airy around my nest.
Looking forward to open windows and growth on the deck and raised bed,
and mostly sunshine!
It's almost here a few more weeks (I HOPE).
Saturday, February 4, 2017
As we enter February, countdown to Spring for me. I figure at least six more weeks of cold.
So, inside I need scents of floral and this market Hyacinth starts the collection.
It caught my eye as it's pink! But I'd like a few white also.
The aroma is so pretty and fresh.
She sits in a Nantucket basket, in a bulb vase.
A few more around my nest will help me, as we all await Spring!

I wanted to share this story with you.
In Germany, the pickle ornament was considered very special.
On Christmas eve the tree was always traditionally decorated, and
for good luck, the pickle was the last ornament to be hung by parents into the green boughs.
The children allowed to view the tree in the morning, would start searching
for the pickle ornament.
Whoever found the pickle first, got something extra left by St. Nicholas.
Something to think about for next year, as from the looks of many homes, many of you are still
removing your home decor and lights.

Last week traveling on the fast ferry got me thinking about children.
Many all over the ferry.
I was a 50's child and my son a 70's child (both of us above, he 3 yr old- me 5 yr old)
and compared to today such a contrast.
Usually I bring a book/magazine to read, sometimes I doze off.
Well, of late parents mostly Mothers are reading aloud, yup loud
to their child, children.
I love books and children BUT why are we subjected to listen to your story telling?
We were raised to speak softly in public, what happened to that?
Everyone seems to be getting louder.
In restaurants, on cell phones walking down a street, why?
Your infringing on our space!
Lack of manners, classless?
Your children mock their parents behavior-think it's time parents you change.
Most are darlin and well dressed, BUT I don't see, hear manners, wonder why?
May I ask those traveling with your darlin children to make them aware
of space, noise, speaking low, while teaching yourself the same. PLEASE
as our society is already a mess, and it starts with the child.
Remember that song "Teach Your Children Well"? by
Crosby,Stills & Nash...
I call it the entitlement crowd, work on it parents!
